Wisconsin Head Start Association Conference in Wisconsin Dells

Posted by: Admin on 2/10/2012

Wisconsin Head Start Association

The second day of the Wisconsin Head Start Association Annual Conference started off with a bang and we were there! With more than nine different sessions available each day for conference attendees, there was more than enough information to go around.

The crowd re-fueled during the lunchtime break to prepare themselves for a rousing and inspiring keynote speech by Michael McGowan. As the president of McGowan and Associates, Michael works as a conflict resolution and workplace and family issues trainer and consultant for companies, schools, and parent’s organizations.

McGowan spoke at length about the generational differences between teachers and students, as well as a divergence of skills and things we take for granted. Of particular importance was the affect technology has had over the multiple generations.

Chris McGowan, Keynote SpeakerMcGowan’s method of speaking was anecdotal, even expositional at times, but his rhythm and sense of humor couldn’t be subdued. The audience was particularly interested in conflict resolution.  McGowan related some very practical observations, encouraging providers to consider the source of the conflict and the conflict resolution skills available to their charges. A generation removed from emotional confrontation by technology will react differently than one not.

Head Start is a national organization dedicated to protecting children and families, as well as advising and promoting positive early experiences. For more information about the Wisconsin Head Start Association, visit their website.  Visit our Facebook page for more photos!
